Instrumentation: violin and percussion ensemble

Year Composed: 2024

Duration: c. 12'

Program Notes:

I am excited to announce a new consortium for percussion quartet and violin soloist, organized by Paul Vaillancourt of the Schwob School of Music, Columbus State University.  The work consists of four short, dance-like movements with a light battery of percussion instruments, playable by advanced undergraduates or graduate students with a virtuosic violin soloist. Please contact Paul for further details.

In addition to Paul at CSU, I am happy to launch this project with the support of  Kevin von Kampen (USF) and Michael Burritt (Eastman) as initial partners. I am also excited to work with consortium violinist Boris Abramov, whom partnering institutions have the option to hire for this project.

The piece will be completed on or around Jan. 8, 2024. In the meantime, feel free to peruse these other works in my catalog that may be relevant to potential consortium partners.

Catch Somewhere is a virtuosic trio for percussion, prepared piano, and guitar.  The percussion part here is played by Paul, joined by pianist Daniel Pesca and guitarist Dieter Hennings. In particular, the third movement is a good introduction to my percussion writing.

This Living Air is a concerto for piano and percussion orchestra (8 players), commissioned by the McCormick Percussion Group with pianist Eunmi Ko.

A Very Star-Like Start is a dance-like octet written for Tim Weiss and the Contemporary Ensemble at Oberlin.

Songs of Bright Orange Notes is a four-song cycle for soprano and violin, written for Rachel Calloway and Ari Streisfeld of Duo Cortona.
