A native of Auburn, NY, John Liberatore now lives with his wife in Rochester where he is pursuing a master's degree at the Eastman School of Music. He currently teaches in the Eastman Computer Music center as an assistant to Allan Schindler and serves on the board of directors for the Ossia Ensemble for New Music. In addition, he acts as the director of music ministries at the First United Methodist Church of West Webster. In May of 2007, Mr. Liberatore graduated summa cum laude from Syracuse University where he was recognized as a VPA scholar - the highest honor awarded by the School of Visual and Performing Arts for scholastic and creative achievement. While at Syracuse, he received numerous distinctions including the Irene Crooker Award, and the Brian Israel Award. He also helped reactivate the Theta Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha, which had been previously inactive since the mid 1970s. Mr. Liberatore's music has been performed around the United States at venues such as the Charles E. Gamper Festival, the Bowdoin Music Festival, and the Buffalo Philharmonic Young Composers' Forum. His composition teachers have included David Liptak, Yehudi Wyner, Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, Samuel Adler (Bowdoin 2006), Daniel S. Godfrey, Nicolas Scherzinger, and Andrew Waggoner. He has also studied piano with Steven Heyman, Tony Caramia, and Wei-Yi Yang.
